Employee Crisis Assistance
A Grateful Colleague Shares Her Story
My name is Laura Stissi and I have worked for Community Hospice for 20 years. I never thought it would be me that would need Employee Crisis Assistance but because of an awful incident on May 10, 2020, that all changed…
My husband of 26 years, who was a truck driver for two different trucking companies, was on his way home from a delivery in Vermont when something terrible happened. In the early morning of May 10th, he somehow went off the road and hit a bunch of trees, dying instantly.
It was Mother’s Day and my kids and I were trying to call him all day with no answer. At around 2:30 PM two cops showed up at my door with the worst news possible, that he had passed away. They told me that his truck jackknifed and burst into flames upon impact. We were all in shock for a while.
My boss told me about the Employee Crisis Assistance Program, because she knew I had my children to support and monthly bills to pay. My husband had no life insurance. I felt lost and didn’t know how I was going to manage it all. I applied to the Employee Crisis Assistance Program, and my application was immediately accepted. Thank god for this program, as it eased so much stress in my life. It was a true blessing. I will definitely be giving back to this wonderful program to help others in need.
